The Athletic announced on Friday that Draymond Green has re-signed with the Golden State Warriors for a four-year, $100 million contract. A player option is included in the contract for the 2026–2027 campaign.

Green’s remarkable run with the Warriors gets extended with this deal. As the defensive leader of the team, Green won Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 and has been nominated to an All-Defensive team eight times in his career. He was instrumental in the Warriors’ four titles since the 2014–15 season.
Green has continued to demonstrate his importance to the Warriors’ recent success. In the 2021–22 season, Golden State won its most recent championship, and the 33-year-old helped the team keep the best defensive rating in the league. He was chosen to the second team All-Defense in each of the previous two seasons.
Before the 2022–23 season even started, concerns regarding Green’s future in Golden State started to surface, despite the fact that he has been seen as a key member of the Warriors team since they drafted him in 2012. During a preseason workout in October, Green got into a fight with teammate Jordan Poole. A video of the brawl eventually surfaced, showing Green punching Poole in the face. For the rest of the preseason, Green was not with the team.

Poole and Andrew Wiggins received contract extensions from the Warriors while Green was away from the team, but Green did not receive one despite being eligible for one.
In an effort to retain their championship, the Warriors had difficulty during the season. After finishing 44–38, they were awarded the sixth seed in the Western Conference playoffs. They defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in Round 2 after losing to them in the previous round.
Green’s play stayed relatively consistent with previous seasons, despite the Warriors’ struggles. In addition to shooting a career-best 52.7 percent from the floor, he averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game.
Green made the decision to become a free agency and turn down his $27.6 million option for the 2023–24 season since he is still having a good impact.
Following news that Green was planning to opt out of his contract on June 19, Mike Dunleavy Jr., the new general manager of the Warriors, expressed hope that the organisation would be able to retain him.
Dunleavy told reporters at the time, “I think Steve [Kerr] has said it, [and] I’ll reiterate [that] we really want Draymond back.” We feel that having him is essential to our team’s and organization’s quest for the greatest possible victory. That makes it crucial.
