Nathan Smith, the late son of Lil Jon, praised the rapper for being “always there” in a resurfaced interview prior to his death at the age of 27.

On Friday, February 6, local police in Milton, Georgia, discovered Nathan Smith dead.

In an interview conducted a few months prior to his passing, Nathan Smith, Lil Jon’s late son, expressed his admiration for the rapper.

A video clip from Smith’s March 2025 interview with 360 Baseline, a nonprofit organization, has been making the rounds on Instagram after his death on Friday, February 6. Speaking of their close bond, he commended Lil Jon for “always showing up” as his father over the years.

Nathan Smith said, “I mean, to be honest, my dad was the type who never made me, or put me in a place where I had to think about any of that, because he was always there,” in response to a question regarding the effects of having his dad “active” in his life.

Nathan Smith went on to say, “He was always there for my birthdays, even if he had to perform somewhere, he would decline and come be with me.” “You don’t really have to worry about that at the end of the day, whether it was music [or] watching a movie, just having him and him letting me know he’s there.”

Nathan Smith is Lil Jon’s first child with Nicole Smith, his estranged wife. In February 2024, the rapper declared their separation.

Nathan Smith was reported missing by the Milton Police Department on February 3 after he was spotted leaving his Milton, Georgia, home without his phone. Police said Friday, February 6, that a body, thought to be Smith’s, had been found in a pond “in Mayfield Park near Smith’s Milton residence.”

The MPD posted on Facebook that divers from the Cherokee County Fire Department had found and recovered a body from the pond on February 6 at around 11:53 a.m. “Until the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office formally confirms it, the person is thought to be Nathan Smith.”

According to the authorities, there was “no indication of foul play” in the deceased.
